We’ve often heard the phrase ”Getting to the
heart of the matter.” When it comes to apologetics, without a doubt, the
heart is the most important organ, not the head. We’re not actually referring to that blood-pumping, chest-thumper…we’re talking about the inner motivations and the
attitudes that you display when defending your faith. Right words without the right
attitude can ruin even the best defense. What does God Himself say about the proper attitude for defending your faith? In Paul’s letter to the Ephesians we read “But speak the truth in LOVE…” (Eph. 4:15) Think...What is the real reason that you want to give a good defense…is it so that you are not embarrassed, or is it to make you look spiritually “superior”???? According to the Lord, our motivation for sharing the truth must begin with LOVE. Love? Love of what…arguing? Debating? Winning??? No, love for God and love for people. Our love for the Lord should motivate us to want to tell others about Him and His salvation. Our love for others should drive us to reach out to them with the message of God’s love and plan for their life. Apologetics start in the heart. Check your heart meter frequently…pray for God to eliminate all impure motivations.
